Lauren has a good life: decent grades, great friends, and a boyfriend every girl wants. So why is she so unhappy?

It takes the arrival of Evan Kirkland for Lauren to figure out the answer: she's been holding back. She's been denying herself a bunch of things (like sex) because staying with her loyal and gorgeous boyfriend, Dave, is the "right" thing to do. After all, who would give up the perfect guy?

But as Dave starts talking more and more about their life together, planning a future Lauren simply can't see herself in-- and as Lauren's craving for Evan, and moreover, who she is with Evan becomes all the more fierce--Lauren realizes she needs to make a choice...before one is made for her.

"High school junior Lauren considers herself lucky to have a boyfriend as perfect as Dave. He is a star athlete and as gentlemanly as he is handsome. Nonetheless, Lauren is anything but happy. The reasons for her discontentment gradually unfold as first-time author Scott digs beneath the surface of a seemingly ideal romance to unveil a heroine who tries too hard to be perfect. The lacking passion in Lauren's relationship with Dave becomes palpable as she finds herself attracted to another boy. Evan isn't what most people would consider a "catch": he works long hours in a warehouse, comes to school with his arms streaked with grease and doesn't seem the least bit interested in the high school social scene. Yet when Lauren is near him, she feels a "live current running between us" that she doesn't experience with Dave....those seeking a romance with a complex, realistically flawed heroine will embrace this story of first love." -- Publishers Weekly

"In a style reminiscent of the work of Sarah Dessen and Deb Caletti, Scott tells the story of Lauren, a not-so-popular high school junior who is dating the secretly celibate most popular boy in school. Without warning, Evan, the loner son of her distant father's former live-in girlfriend, returns to town and stirs up confusing emotions for Lauren, who once believed that a popular boyfriend was all she needed to secure happiness...Lauren's inner conflict over her affair with Evan, and the various lies surrounding it, rings true, and the novel has enough drama to keep readers interested. -- School Library Journal

"Lauren is a refreshingly complex character. Her narrative voice is authentic, as is her struggle to find herself among everyone's expectations...Scott has created a pitch-perfect look at the life of one teenager just trying to figure out how to be herself."-- KLIATT

"4Q 4P...the stream-of-consciousness prose expertly conveys the endorphin rush that accompanies first love....Scott's work deserves notice." --VOYA, June 2007

"This is a spicy and emotional blend of new realism and old-style romance. Lauren is believably struggling with the legacy of a deserting mom and her conviction that succumbing to emotion merely leads to disaster...those who follow Lauren's delicious dilemma will adore seeing her so wrong she's finally right and firmly in the arms of the guy who inspired her growth." -- The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books

"What makes BLOOM so readable is Scott's focus on picking apart Lauren's personality to get at the motivations behind her actions. Instead of a mere stock character, Lauren comes off as a justifiably mixed-up girl who is desperately trying to figure out her next move..." -- Teenreads.com

"Well, I loved Bloom. LOOOOOOVED it...People, I'm telling you: Read it ASAP. It's smart and layered and real, it feels honest and, yes, it's a swoonfest-o-rama. I loved it." --Bookshelves of Doom

"I loved everything about this book. Everything...I can't wait to read Elizabeth Scott's next book." -- Trashionista

"...BLOOM is a beautiful, powerful love story, a wonderful coming-of-age story, and most of all just an amazing novel told in Lauren's fresh, funny, and distinctive voice." -- TeensReadToo.com

"A fresh, honest, and heartfelt look at first love." -- Deb Caletti, National Book Award finalist for Honey,Baby,Sweetheart

"Finally drawn, honest, sweet and charming, Bloom is like getting a beautifully wrapped gift--it's lovely to start with, and just gets better as you tear into it." -- Michele Jaffe, author of Bad Kitty

The idea behind Bloom: I was on the phone with a friend, and we were talking about young adult novels. I said I'd love to see a book where a girl had the happily-ever-after, seemingly perfect life, complete with the perfect boyfriend--and realized she wasn't happy. My friend said, "So write it!" And I did!
